Book Review | Truth For Life: 365 Daily Devotions

Alistair Begg recently released his newest book, Truth For Life: 365 Daily Devotions. Bearing his Bible-teaching ministry’s name, this new devotional book is a wonderful reflection of his ministry’s mission to teach the Bible with clarity and relevance.

Like most devotional books, Truth For Life follows the same format of having dates, titles, and scripture texts as guides for day-to-day reading. Each devotional is at least four-paragraphs-long and includes additional Scripture passages for further study. What sets this devotional book apart from others is at the bottom of each devotional you will see three distinct icons designed to prompt you to ask yourself:

  • How is God calling me to think differently?
  • How is God reordering my heart’s affections—what I love?
  • What is God calling me to do as I go about my day today?

Each devotional is short but meaty. They actually remind me of Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening devotionals, which Alistair Begg revised and updated a few years ago. His presentation of the word is very warm and pastoral which beautifully mirrors his decades in the pastoral ministry. Faithful and clear — this is the way he presents the Scriptures. His reflections are simple yet profound which in turn will cause you to reflect and ponder. I love that he sometimes uses vivid anecdotes to relate to the text which I find very enjoyable to read. He concludes each devotional with an application that points you to Christ.

Final thoughts

Truth For Life is not your ordinary devotional. True to its title, the pages of this book contain truth and wisdom taken from God’s Word to guide you from day to day. These devotionals will help you to think and live guided by the Scripture.

This beautiful hardback book with a matching ribbon marker makes a perfect gift this holiday season. It retails for £14.99, and is available at a discounted price on https://www.thegoodbook.co.uk/
