Review | NLT Hope & Encouragement Bible

DaySpring in partnership with Tyndale House Publishers brings us the NLT Hope & Encouragement Bible.

Since my unboxing of this Bible, I have spent the last two days using it, and I must say that it reminds me a lot of the CSB He Reads Truth Bible that I reviewed two years ago. The NLT Hope & Encouragement Bible is available in leatherlike and cloth-over-board covers (I am reviewing the latter). This particular edition measures 9.25” x 6.75” x 1.75”, weighs 2 lbs, and comes in a beautiful slipcase cover. The seafoam green cloth-over-board cover is nicely done and looks very elegant. This is the reason why I chose to review this over the leatherlike edition. Also, in my years of reviewing Bibles, it is my first time to see a hardbound Bible with gold-gilded edges. This feature is not so common in hardbound Bibles and is only popular in Bibles with leather or leather-like covers. With this, DaySpring and Tyndale set the bar higher.

The main highlight of this Bible is the 12 indisputable truths about who we are in Christ. “You are known,” “you are not alone,” “you have a reason for hope,” are among the expressions amplified throughout this Bible. What I love most about those phrases is that they point us back to Christ. One of the sections states that “we have a reason for hope BECAUSE Jesus is faithful.” I think that is really good and significant—we are who we are because of who our God is. Aside from those features, this Bible also has 52 full-page devotionals from bestselling DaySpring books, 250+ reflective DaySpring inspirations, and full-color maps and vivid illustrations.

Without all those extras and special features mentioned above, this is basically a journaling Bible. Each Scripture page of this Bible has a 2-inch lined margin for journaling and note-taking. However, I would be a little cautious if I am to write on its pages. Though the paper is of good quality and adequately opaque at around 30 gsm, highlights and writings might cause bleed-throughs. On the other hand, I like the typeface and layout of this Bible. They are neat and very seamless to read. The texts are also line-matched which improves the overall readability. This Bible has a Smyth-sewn binding that causes it to lay fully flat.

DaySpring’s NLT Hope and Encouragement Bible is by far one of the finest journaling Bibles I have ever reviewed. This Bible retails for $49.99 and will officially be available to the public on October 5, 2021. Here is the good news: DaySpring is currently running a pre-sale promo. When you pre-order now through October 4th, you will get the 100 Days of Hope & Encouragement Devotional Journal for FREE!
