In celebration of his 50 years of pastoral ministry, Dr. Tony Evans released his eponymous study Bible through LifeWay Christian Resources. The CSB Tony Evans Study Bible was published just a few days ago and is available in different formats/covers. LifeWay/B&H Publishing sent me a copy of the hardcover edition in exchange for my honest review.

Binding and Cover
The hardcover edition comes with a beautifully-designed dust jacket. Justifying its theme Advancing God’s Kingdom Agenda, the cover looks stunning in its brown & gold royalty-themed design. It is smyth-sewn with two satin ribbon markers in red and brown. It measures 9 x 6.70 x 1.75 inches, weighs 3 pounds 3 ounces, and perfectly lays flat. I like its size – simply perfect for me!
The CSB Tony Evans Study Bible is also available in these covers (with and without thumb-index):
- Genuine Leather Black
- Imitation Leather Tan
- Imitation Leather Black / Brown
- Imitation Leather Purple
Paper and Print
The paper has an off-white tone and is about 32 or 36 gsm. It is highly opaque with almost no ghosting. The print is very consistent throughout – sharp, crisp, dark. Print colors black and golden brown are perfectly in-tune with the royalty theme.
Layout and Typography
The interior of The CSB Tony Evans Study Bible was designed and typeset by 2K/DENMARK. Using Bible Serif typeface, scripture texts are in a 9.5-point font in double-column paragraph format. Cross-references are placed at the outer margin, while the translation notes are below the scripture. Printed in triple-column format, the study notes use the same typeface in a 7.5-point font. Scripture texts are easy to read but I find the study notes too small.
Each book of the Bible includes an introduction that discusses matters of authorship, historical background, and purpose. The outline of each book is also provided.
The study notes are of course Dr. Tony Evans’ own exegesis, exposition, and exhortation. These notes, I must say, are his finest fruits and collected wisdom from his five-decade tenure in the ministry. The bold texts in the notes are passages directly taken from Scripture.
Kingdom Living Lessons
This is one of my favorite features. These are practical lessons that are designed to help you live a kingdom-minded life. 50 lessons are scattered throughout the volume and are categorized into five: Kingdom, Personal, Family, Church, and Community.
Video Devotionals (through QR Codes)
This is literally old-school meets high-tech. QR Codes that link to various video devotionals online are printed throughout the CSB Tony Evans Study Bible. It’s my first time to encounter this in any Bible, and I love the very innovative idea.
Other study aids include:
- 40 inspirational articles
- Hope Words – these are brief insights inspired by Scripture to empower and encourage you.
- Application Questions – questions to help you engage the biblical text and apply God’s Word to every area of your life.
- Full-color Maps
- CSB Concordance
- Three-Year Bible Reading Plan
- Harmony of The Gospel
- Topical Index
- Overview of Theology, Bibliology, Trinity, Christology, Pneumatology
- Basic Doctrines of the Christian Faith
The CSB Tony Evans Study Bible is a very well-thought-out study Bible. From its physical design to its exceedingly rich study materials, this volume is a wonderful reflection and celebration of the Lord’s glorious work through the life of Dr. Tony Evans. I love every single part of it. This is a must-have!
