Album Review | Heaven On Earth (Planetshakers)

What is it like to experience heaven on earth? How does it feel to capture just a glimpse of heaven on this side of eternity? As for Planetshakers, God’s manifest presence is heaven on earth, and that’s the message of their latest offering.

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Planetshakers band has been resourcing the global church with songs of worship and praise for more than two decades now. Songs such as Nothing is Impossible, The Anthem, Deeper, and Endless Praise are just some of the popular tracks in their huge and continuously growing music library. Their mission “to empower generations to win generations” has driven them to host conferences around the globe, and I am so privileged to have attended two of their recent conferences here in Manila, Philippines.

Recorded in different conferences in various countries, Heaven on Earth is available in 15-song digital format that can be purchased on digital music stores and streaming outlets. The deluxe edition features a 14-song CD and 10-track DVD.

My personal favorites from the album are The Greatest, Not Alone, Above All Names, and There Is No One Like You. Led by Planetshakers’ worship leaders Sam Evans, Joth Hunt, BJ Pridham, and Chelsi Nikkerud, these songs were recorded live in Asia and pre-released as an EP in early April. I instantly liked this set the moment it was introduced by the band at the morning sessions of PsConf Manila 2018 last January. I will never forget especially that time when we sang Above All Names, the people gloriously erupted in worship crying out the name of Jesus. It is simply amazing to think that gatherings like the Planetshakers Conference can create a marvelous picture of what we will do in heaven for eternity, and that is to worship our saviour Jesus Christ.

In July, a second four-track EP was released by the team and this time the songs were recorded at their four-day annual Melbourne conference held last April. This set does not disappoint either. The electronic beats and 80s vibe on Move Out Of My Way is cool and enthusiastic, and you’ll surely like the melody of Electric Atmosphere. Beautiful ballads I Want Jesus and Draw Close Again balance the set with atmospheric, intimate worship, declaring our need of God’s presence.

The third and final installment of the Heaven On Earth trilogy features the title track, Overcome It All, Rivers, Through It All (Remix) and Nothing Is Impossible (EDM Remix), and was released on October 19. My favorite track from this set is the powerful Pridham-led anthem ‘Overcome It All’ that declares victory and faith in Jesus.

As Pastor Sam Evans puts it, not only is heaven a destination that all Christians are looking forward to, but Jesus encouraged us to pray for His kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven. This is the heartbeat of this album — more of God’s presence and anointing, more of Jesus’ power and move. Overall, Heaven on Earth is a one solid release and very much timely for this generation and the generations to come.
