Hope will rise in 2016 as Hillsong UNITED’s highly anticipated movie is set for nationwide release on September 16. We were there as Hillsong’s J.D. shared the Let Hope Rise release information with an enthusiastic crowd at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, OH yesterday.
“The truth is that we didn’t decide to make a movie about ourselves, because the truth is that we just aren’t that into ourselves,” he joked. “We were doing a worship night just like this in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl and these two producers from Hollywood came and they simply encountered God. One of them had never been to church, wasn’t a Christian and couldn’t explain what he felt or experienced and all he wanted to do was go away and make a film so that other people could go to a cinema and experience what we’re going to experience here tonight and what they experienced that night.”
Let Hope Rise has been called a “game changer ” that is “beyond inspiring” and “absolutely amazing” in early reviews shared with TheChristianBeat. “Every time the movie has been tested out at markets across the country, there have been reports that at different times in the movie people would stand up, lift their hands, and worship along,” J.D. added.
Directed by Michael John Warren, the film follows the band as they labor to record their new album and explores the history of Hillsong, a 30-year journey from a tiny church in the Sydney suburbs to a vibrant international ministry. The movie culminates in a transformational concert experience spotlighting the humble hearts behind this worldwide sensation. Let Hope Rise is a co-production of Cantinas Entertainment, Grace Hill Media and MediaWeaver Entertainment.
